Sanjichat is a sort of large platform that is located at a distance 9.5 Kms from Katra and 3.25 Kms from Adkuwari. At an altitude of 6200 feet above sea-level, Sanjhi Chhat is the highest point in the Yatra,and the Holy Cave is just about 2.75 Kms away from this point. And, since the downhill slope starts from the SanjhiChhat, the remaining yatra does not take much time.

SanjhiChhat provides scenic view of the mountains and valleys. And this is also the point where Shrine Board provides a lot of facilites including a medical facility, Accomodation, Food Joint and Souvenir shops. A helipad also exists at the Sanjhi Chhat and those who undertake the Helicopter journey from Katra to Sanjhi Chhat, use it for embarking or disembarking on their journey.

Katra town is located at an altitude of nearly 2500 ft above sea level while the sanctum sanctorum is located at nearly 5200 ft. above sea level. There is obviously a significant temperature difference between the two locations. A reference to the Vaishno Devi Weather temperature of Katra town alone may thus be misleading, for, even at the height of summer, the Vaishno Devis Bhawan area may be considerably cool. For this purpose, a chart outlining the broad range of summer and winter temperatures at both Katra Town and Vaishno Devis Bhawan is outlined below.

The Katra Town temperature figures are merely indicative and actual values may vary from year to year. Nevertheless, these values are meant to give the pilgrims a fair idea of the temperature range and to plan their yatra and clothing requirements accordingly.

The Vaishno Devi Weather Temperature is a place which is cool all through the year.

1) Summers (March to July) are cool and pleasant and most of the pilgrims visit the Mata Vaishno Devi during this period.

2) Winters (November to February) are characterized by sub-zero level temperature and are snow bound.

3) Best Season to visit Vaishno Devi is between March and October, even though Vaishno Devi yatra is open through the year.

4) March to October is ideal for Vasishno Devi yatra and sight seeing.

5) November to February is freezing and is perfect for tourists who like snow capped regions.

The nearest Railway Station and Airport are at Jammu, at a distance of 50 Kms from Base camp Katra. A regular bus services are plying from Railway Station, Air port and General Bus Stand Jammu to Katra. Also number of Taxies, Tourist vans, Deluxe Busses is available at these places. However number of inter state busses are available for Katra from almost all the major cities of North India.

The Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine is linked to the Base Camp Katra with a 13 Kms track. The entire uphill Journey from Katra to Bhawan is on foot; however, one can hire ponies, palkies or pithoo for ease of journey.

Banganga Temple
The 13 Kms hilly track between Katra and Bhawan contains number of ancient temples and view-points for rest and enjoy natural beauty. The first stop is at Banganga, 1 Km away from Katra where one can have holy bath in the Banganga and have a Langer/Parshad (free food) run by famous T-series Industries.

Charanpaduka Temple
The second stop Charanpadhuka is about 2.5 Kms away from Banganga. It is believed that Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji took rest while moving towards the Trikuta Hills. The place contains the foot prints of Goddess, and thus the place is named Charanpadhuka Temple..

Ardhkuwari Temple
The third stop Ardkuwari is about 3 Kms from Charanpadhuka. Here one can stay for night as half of the journey is over. At Adkuwari the devotees can have Darshan of Adkuwari Temple and Gerbhjoon (an ancient Cave of about 20 feet). It is believed that Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji hides herself from Bairon Nath in this cave for 9 months.

There is a huge stone outside the cave that represents the body of Bhairo Nath. After he was killed, she prayed to the Goddess to forgive him. It is said that the Goddess gave the benediction that the desires of her devotees who visit this place would be fulfilled.

Bhumika Temple
Bhumika Temple is a 1 km from Katra, the Goddess Disappeared. This place is called Darshni Darwaja because the Trikuta Mauntain is Visible from here Trikuta Mauntain is three high peaks that are the abodes of the Goddess Vaishno Devi.

For the ease of Journey the tourist must
1) Register them at the booking counter Katra and get the yatra slip
2) Get permission for the video camera, if interested.
3) Check the identity card of the Pithoo, Pony and Palki before hiring them.
4) For ease of Journey Travel as light as possible, since all the facilities are available on the track. 5) Avoid the use of Polythene bag to protect the environment.
6) Throw the waste in the waste-boxes available.
7) Walk on the track only and enjoy the beauty of the nature. Wrong track can lead to d disastrous results.
8) While leaving for the Darshan of the Holy Shrine, deposit your belongings at the clock rooms and get the receipt.
9) Donations are to be made at the donation counters and get the receipt duly signed

Banganga is the place where an arrow was pierced into the earth/ground and from which sprouted the Ganga or Ganges so that Vaishno Mata and her devotee (some believ it was Hanuman) could have a drink of water and quench their thirst.

The legend goes that after the Goddess Vaishno Maa left the Bhumika Temple, she went to the Trikuta Hills passing through here. At this time, Veer Hanuman (Veer Langoor) felt thirsty. The Goddess Vaishno Maa shot an arrow into the stone and a holy river was produced, now known as Ban Ganga. It is called Ban Ganga because the Goddess Vaishno Maa washed her hair at this place. Ban Ganga is about 3-km from Katra.

Present day it is a stream offshoot of the Ganga and there is a spot where there are steps leading down to the stream. Some devotees believe in bathing here others in washing their faces, hands and feet and quenching their thirst before they continue on their journey. Many fill flasks and containers of Ganga Jal and all offer prayers and obeisances at Banganga.

Pilgrims first go to the temple at Adhkawari and then enter the narrow cave of 15 ft known as Garbha Joon. At most places the cave is not more than two feet wide. In spite of this people of all sixes are able to crawl though it. This cave is believed to be symbolic of the womb.

The legend states that Garbha Joon where the Goddess hid herself for nine months and showed her self to a saint. The cave is narrow, and you have to almost crawl all the way though it. When Bhairo nath entered the cave, the Goddess made a new opening with her trident and ran away. Ardh Kuwari is 4.5-km from Charan Paduka.

आपने जम्मू की वैष्णो माता का नाम अवश्य सुना होगा। आज हम आपको इन्हीं की कहानी सुना रहे हैं, जो बरसों से जम्मू-कश्मीर में सुनी व सुनाई जाती है। कटरा के करीब हन्साली ग्राम में माता के परम भक्त श्रीधर रहते थे। उनके यहाँ कोई संतान न थी।

वे इस कारण बहुत दुखी रहते थे। एक दिन उन्होंने नवरात्रि पूजन के लिए कुँवारी कन्याओं को बुलवाया। माँ वैष्णो कन्या वेश में उन्हीं के बीच आ बैठीं। अन्य कन्याएँ तो चली गईं किंतु माँ वैष्णो नहीं गईं। वह श्रीधर से बोलीं-‘सबको अपने घर भंडारे का निमंत्रण दे आओ।’ श्रीधर ने उस दिव्य कन्या की बात मान ली और आस-पास के गाँवों में भंडारे का संदेश पहुँचा दिया। लौटते समय गोरखनाथ व भैरवनाथ जी को भी उनके चेलों सहित न्यौता दे दिया। सभी अतिथि हैरान थे कि आखिर कौन-सी कन्या है, जो इतने सारे लोगों को भोजन करवाना चाहती है? श्रीधर की कुटिया में बहुत-से लोग बैठ गए। दिव्य कन्या ने एक विचित्र पात्र से भोजन परोसना आरंभ किया। जब कन्या भैरवनाथ के पास पहुँची तो वह बोले, ‘मुझे तो मांस व मदिरा चाहिए।’ ‘ब्राह्मण के भंडारे में यह सब नहीं मिलता।’ कन्या ने दृढ़ स्वर में उत्तर दिया। भैरवनाथ ने जिद पकड़ ली किंतु माता उसकी चाल भाँप गई थीं। वह पवन का रूप धारण कर त्रिकूट पर्वत की ओर उड़ चलीं। भैरव ने उनका पीछा किया। माता के साथ उनका वीर लंगूर भी था। एक गुफा में माँ शक्ति ने नौ माह तक तप किया। भैरव भी उनकी खोज में वहाँ आ पहुँचा। एक साधु ने उससे कहा, ‘जिसे तू साधारण नारी समझता है, वह तो महाशक्ति हैं।’ भैरव ने साधु की बात अनसुनी कर दी। माता गुफा की दूसरी ओर से मार्ग बनाकर बाहर निकल गईं।

वह गुफा आज भी गर्भ जून के नाम से जानी जाती है। देवी ने भैरव को लौटने की चेतावनी भी दी किंतु वह नहीं माना। माँ गुफा के भीतर चली गईं। द्वार पर वीर लंगूर था। उसने भरैव से युद्ध किया। जब वीर लंगूर निढाल होने लगा तो माता वैष्णो ने चंडी का रूप धारण किया और भैरव का वध कर दिया।भैरव का सिर भैरों घाटी में जा गिरा। तब माँ ने उसे वरदान दिया कि जो भी मेरे दर्शनों के पश्चात भैरों के दर्शन करेगा, उसकी सभी मनोकामनाएँ पूरी होंगी। आज भी प्रतिवर्ष लाखों श्रद्धालु माता वैष्णों के दर्शन करने आते हैं। गुफा में माता पिंडी रूप में विराजमान हैं।

The gateway is the Darshani Darwaza which is approx 1 km from the parchi or ticket counter. It is so named because it is the point from where the yatra is really deemed to commence and thus becomes the doorway or Darshan Darwaza for. Pilgrims cover this stretch either on foot, on auto rickshaws or by the bus service which is operated by the Shrine Board free of charge for the pilgrim. Darshni Darwaza also called bhumika temple.

Vaishno Devi Temple is the most-sought after pilgrimage of the Hindus. The temple is recognized as one of the "Shakti Peeths" of goddess ' Durga'. The abode of the Goddess Vaishno Devi is in the Mountains of Trikuta Hills, in the Jammu and Kashmir State of Northern India. The Goddess resides in a beautiful cave in the form of 3 'Pindis' namely, “Maha Kali”, “Maha Laxmi” and “Maha Saraswati”. The Goddess Maa Vaishno Devi is said to have killed the demon Bhairon nath here. Mata Vaishno Mandir is the holiest shrine of India and it is famous all over the World. This holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi which is situated in the folds of mighty 'Tirkuta' Hills' attracts lakhs of devotees from all parts of India and abroad.

Vaishno Devi Shrine is placed at an altitude of 5200 feet above sea level. Vaishno Devi is the second most-visited shrines of India, first being the Tirupati Balaji Temple. The temple is managed and maintained by Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. Vaishno Devi is regarded as the incarnation of Shakti. Every year, millions of pilgrims visit the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi. There is a legend behind the establishment of this temple.

Vaishno Devi is a hard four-hour (13-km) climb from Katra. The best time to come is March to July, as the rest of the time of the year it can be very cold. The main pilgrimage time is March-April and September-October. In 1986, 1.6 million people came here, or 15 to 20 thousand people a day. The cave ideally handles just 8 or 10 thousand people a day, as only 12 or 15 people are let into the cave at a time. On the full moon day in October and November the line to get into the cave can be 4-km long. It is believed that the arm of Goddess Sati fell at this place.

While passing through a ravine she shot an arrow into the earth from where water gushed out -- this stream came to be known as Banaganga. Charan Paduka, marked by the imprints of her feet, is the place where she rested. The Goddess then meditated in the cave at Adhkawari. It took Bhairon Nath nine months to locate her, the reason why the cave is known as Garbh Joon. Mata Vaishno Devi blasted an opening at the other end of the cave with Her Trident when Bhairon Nath located her.

Maa Vaishno Devi followed and worshiped Lord Vishnu and considered him as Her ideal. At about 2 kms from Katra, from where we start out Maa Vaishno Devi Yatra today, is situated an old village, Hansal, also called Hansalli. About 700 years before, there lived a very poor priest named Pandit Shirdhar, who was very heartily devoted to Maa Vaishno Devi. He used to sing his daily prayers and performed Maa Vaishno Devi Puja daily. He also used to worship little girls (called Kanchika Pujan) regularly. And as faith was, he was childless and had no children of his own.

His daily Puja and Prayers for Maa Vaishnodevi went on for many years. At last seeing his firm-faith and the true devotion, Maa Vaishno Devi one day came to Panditji, in the form of a little innocent girl.

Pandit Shridhar had been busy in his daily preparation of Kanya Pujan, where, some little girls were present before him. Maa Vaishno Devi manifested herself in those little-girls. As per the Hindu tradition, while Pandit Shirdhar had been washing the feet of these little girls, his sight fell on Maa Vaishno Devi manifested herself in the form of a little girl. Panditji was astonished to see her celestial beauty in vermilion garbs; she wore on her divine body. He had never seen the little girl before, and she did not even seem to belong to his village. Anyway, he worshipped as usual. When the Puja over, all the girls returned to their homes after getting their offerings from Panditji, except Maa Vaishno Devi who remained seated.

Panditji was very much confused and was about to enquire and ask Maa Vaishno Devi, that Maa Vaishno Devi Herself spoke to him and said " I have an important task for you." Panditji was spell bound and was astonished more and more to listen to such a conversation from that little-girl. Maa Vaishno Devi asked Panditji to invite people from neighboring villages for a collective lunch - called Bhandhara. Panditji was very much confused and before he could say anything or ask Maa Vaishno Devi about her, Maa Vaishno Devi disappeared. [Bhumika Temple - About 2 kilometers from Katra on Panthal Road, is situated Bhumika Temple. This is the place, where Pt. Shirdhar had the sight of Maa Vaishno Devi - The Divine Girl. At this very place Pt. Shridhar arranged the Bhandhara.]

Pandit Shirdhar went on thinking hard - who this little girl was? But was unable to find an answer to it… She might be an "Eternal-Girl", or may be Maa Vaishno Devi Herself and the more he thought the more he got confused, and worried for the "Bhandhara", as it was not possible for him to keep such a huge Bhandhara. He could not think of anything, and in the end, he decided to obey the Divine Girl and went to tell and invite the people in the neighboring villages.

He went on to invite people from one village to another. On his way, he came across a group of saints. He very humbly bowed before them, and with his folded hands, extended an invitation to them also to attend Bhandhara, the next day. Gorakhnath - the leader of the group of saints - told him that he was mistaking in inviting them at home, as even Lord Indra had not been able to satisfy them. Pt. Shridhar got afraid and related them the event and told them of the Divine-Girl. Gorakhnath in his anxiety accepted Panditji's invitation. He also wanted to see, such a girl, who could prepare food for so many peoples and was very curious to find Who this Girl was?

Panditji was fully exhausted when he returned home, and so he went fast asleep immediately on returning home. The next morning, once again, he started worrying about the arrangements for Bhandhara. He just sat in his home, thinking, when people began to gather outside his small hut. Gorakhnath and Bhairavnath, a disciple of Gorakhnath, also arrived along with their disciples.

Panditji was not able to understand what was going on, and to his surprise, all of a sudden Maa Vaishno Devi - The Divine Girl, entered into the little hut. No one could know - which way She had come! How and when did She arrive? Maa Vaishno Devi told Panditji, "Don't worry, and get up! Everything will be arranged very soon. Tell your guests to come in and sit in the hut." Pt. Shirdhar, immediately got up, and came out to the eagerly awaiting crowd. He invited them to come inside the hut and have food. Gorakhanth then asked - How can we sit in your hut? It does not have a sufficient space for all of us. Panditji folded his hands and said. No problem - please come in .....

All people who were invited began to enter one by one in the hut. All of them were astonished to see, that all of them had entered and sat inside the hut and still a small space was left in the corner of the same hut, which was very small !!

Meri Maiya began to serve food from a small vessel in Her little hands. The foods of their respective choice and likings! Everyone was surprised and Maa Vaishno Devi bhakt Pt. Shirdhar was overwhelmed with joy.

Gorakhnath and his senior disciple Bhairavnath were very much amazed and began to consult between themselves - and said She seems to be an Eternal Power. Who She was? and when Maa Vaishno Devi reached Bhairavnath to serve him the foods, he asked, "Shall I get the food of my choice?"

"What do you want?" Maa Vaishno Devi asked him politely. Bhairavnath asked for meat and wine. Maa Vaishno Devi very gently told him that he was sitting in the hut of a pious Vaishnav Brahmin, and that only vegetarian food will be served.

Bhairavnath turned a deaf ears to the words, as he wanted to cross-examine the Girl. Nevertheless, Maa Vaishno Devi knew his evil desires and as soon as, Bhairavnath could rose up with some seditious thinking and tried to catch hold of Maa Vaishno Devi hand, Maa Vaishno Devi disappeared.

Bhairavnath was an expert at the science of meditation and was a tantrik. He closed his eyes for a moment and saw with the help of his yogic-powers (tantrik powers) that Maa Vaishno Devi had proceeded towards the Trikuta Hills, in a subtle form of "Air". Bhairavnath started chasing Meri Maiya. [ Darshni Darwaza - Maa Vaishno Devi proceeded through this way, after disappearing from the Bhandhara. One can get a clear view of the hills, from this place. Hence it is called Darshni Darwaza, i.e., a gate to the hill-site one and a half kilometer from Katra.]

During this chase, Maa Vaishno Devi felt thirsty, and She perched an arrow with Her bow on the land and a stream of water flew out. This place is called Ban Ganga. [ Ban Ganga - Starting form Katra and passing through Darshni Darwaza, Ban Ganga is a streamlet gushing out from the hills over a bridge. The stream is regarded very sacred and many bhakts take a purificatory bath in it before proceeding further. A beautiful idol of the goddess is place in the corridors of Ban Ganga temple.]

Maa Vaishno Devi stopped for some time and looked behind at Bhairavnath who was chasing her. [ Charan Paduka - The place where Maa Vaishno Devi rested have marks of the impressions of Her feet and were printed on a stone as She stopped here. The foot prints are still visible on the stone, preserved here in the temple. Hence, the place is called "Charan Paduka" i.e., the holy foot prints.]

At a considerable distance from Charan paduka, Maa Vaihsno Devi reached a small charming plateau, called Ardhkwari, where a mendicant was practicing his meditations opposite a small tunnel. She gave Her divine sight to the mendicant and told him not to tell any thing about Her visit to any one. Thereafter, Maa Vaishno Devi went into the tunnel and took rest for full long nine months, as if the child in the womb of a mother. Maa Vaishno Devi spent the nine months in complete devotion. Hence, the tunnel was called "Garabh Joon".

Searching for Maa Vaishno Devi, Bhairavnath reached here. He asked the mendicant " Have you seen a girl on this plateau?" The old mendicant replied, " She is the supreme power in the whole world, whom you think to be an ordinary girl and that she is Adikumari", i.e. A virgin since the very beginning of this earth. He told Bhairavnath either to run away or to beg pardon from Her. The moment universe came into existence since then She has maintained virginity better you go back. Bhairavnath again put a deaf ear to the advice and entered into the tunnel. Maa Vaishno Devi was aware of it. Maa Vaishno with Her divine powers made another opening of the cave by strucking a path at the end of the tunnel with the help of Her trident and moved ahead towards the Holy cave at Darbar (Bhavan). [ Garabh Joon - The tunnel is about 15 feet long that starts horizontally and ends vertically. This place is about 5 kms from Charan Paduka.]

On reaching at the Holy cave at Darbar Maa Vaishno Devi with all Her powers looked as MAHA KALI and in the end Maa Vaishno Devi with Her Trishul cut the head of Bhairavnath and threw it with such a force that it went at a distant Mountain. The place at which the head fell is now Bhairav temple. According to the katha the big rock at the entrance of the Holy cave is the remaining body of Bhairavnath.

Bhairavnath then started pleading Maa Vaishno Devi, and begged to Maa Vaishno Devi to forgive him, for his sins. Merciful Maa Vaishno Devi forgave Bhairavnath for all his sins and blessed him and granted him a wish that whenever Her bhakts will come to Bhavan for Her Darshan their yatra will not be completed unless on going back after Her Darshan the bhakts pay homage at Bhairavnath temple.

On the other side, Pt. Shirdhar was very much disappointed with the sudden disappearance of Maa Vaishno Devi. He was very much worried about Maa Vaishno Devi, and went on for fasting for many days, even leaving food and water.

Kind hearted Maa Vaishnodevi, again appeared before him, in his dream one night. In his dream, Maa Vaishno Devi showed him Her shrine - the Holy cave and asked him to follow HER through the route. Panditji followed Maa Vaishno Devi and reached Maa Vaishno Devi Pavitra Gufa. Pt. Shirdhar was very happy when he woke up in the morning. All his distortion was removed.
From that very day, Panditji began to search for the Holy cave of Maa Vaishno Devi, which he had seen in his dream. He was very much disturbed and wanted to find Maa Vaishno Devi Holy cave as soon as possible. He started recounting and following the route as Maa Vaishno Devi has directed him, and once while climbing up the hills, Panditji was able discover the Holy cave, the same which he saw in his dream.

Panditji entered inside the Holy Cave .…. And to his astonishment, he got the Holy sight of the abode of Maa Vaishno Devi to the success of his life. He saw, Maa Vaishno Devi, represented by three goddesses, viz. Maa Maha Laxmi (the goddess of beauty and wealth), Maa Mahakali (the vanquisher of evil (right)), Maa Maha Saraswati (the muse of art and learning (left)). Pandit Shirdhar read hymns and verses in praise of Maa Vaishno Devi, with his hands folded before HER, and offered "Aarti", and bowed and prayed by all means. Maa Vaishno Devi was very much pleased with him. She granted him a boon of four sons, and said that his descendants will continue to worship Her. Since that day, the descendants of Pt. Shirdhar have been worshipping Maa Vaishno Devi, inside the Holy cave (Pavitra Gufa).

Thereafter, Pt. Shirdhar made known to this world of the Holy Cave and existence of Maa Vaishno Devi in the Pavitra Gufa. This is how, we all came to know of our beloved Maa Vaishno Devi ..... and had been blessed by Her all through these years .....

वैष्णो देवी की कहानी

जम्मू में स्थित माँ वैष्णो देवी की महिमा अपरम्पार है । जो भक्त्त अपनी मुरादें लेकर मैया के दाराबार में पहुँचते है । भक्त्त वत्सला माता अपने भक्तो को पुत्रवत स्नेह करती है और मुरादें पुरी करती है । कोई भी भक्त्त माँ के दरबार से निराश नही लौटता है । माँ वैष्णो देवी 'त्रिकुट पर्वत' पर महाकली लक्ष्मी, और महासरस्वती के तीन पिंडो के रूप में विराज करती है । जहा हर साल बहुत श्रद्धालु माता के दर्शन के लिए आते है और कठिन चढाई चढ़ते है ।

पृथ्वी पर अनेको बार अशुरों के अत्याचार हुए और उनके अत्याचारों के बोझ से जब पृथ्वी धँसने लगी तब तब दिव्य रूप में देवी शक्तियों ने अवतार लिया और पृथ्वी को भार मुक्त किया है । एक बार माँ लक्ष्मी, माँ कली, और माँ सरस्वती ने त्रेता युग में दत्यो का अत्याचार का अंत करने के लिए और संत जानो की रक्षा करने के लिए अपनी समस्त शक्तियों से एक दिव्या कन्या को उत्पन करने का निशचय किया । उनके नेत्रों से निकली दिव्या ज्योति से एक कन्या प्रकट हुई उसके हाथ में त्रिशूल और ओ शेर पर सवार थी । उस कन्या ने तीनो महा शक्तियों के तरफ़ देखकर कहा - हे महा शक्तियों आपने मुझे क्यों उत्पन किया है मेरी उत्पति का क्या प्रयोजन है कृपा करके मुझे बताइए ।

तब तीनो महा देवियों ने कहा - हे कन्या धर्म की रक्षा और अधर्म का नाश करने के लिए हमने तुम्हे उत्पन किया अब तुम हमारी बात मानकर दक्षिण भारत में रतनाकर सागर की पुत्री के रूप में जन्म लो । वहा तुम भगवन विष्णु के अंश से उत्पन होओगी आत्म प्रेरणा से धर्म हित का कार्य ।
महादेवियो की अनुमती लेकर ओ दिव्य कन्या उसी क्षण रतनाकर सागर के घर गई और उनकी पत्नी के गर्भ में स्थित हो गई । समयानुसार उस कन्या की उत्पति हुई । उस कन्या का मुखमंडल सूर्य के सामान अद्भुत और अलौकिक था । रतनाकर सागर के उस कन्या का नाम त्रिकुटा रखा । थोड़े ही दिनों में त्रिकुटा ने अपने दिव्य शक्तियों से सभी ऋषियों को अपनी ओर आकर्षित कर लिया अर्थात सभी ऋषि जन उसे दिव्य अवतार मानने लगे । त्रिकुटा भगवान् विष्णु की बहुत निष्ट और लग्न से पूजा करती थी इसी कारन उसे सब लोग वैष्णवी कह कर बुलाते थे । कुछ दिन और बीत जाने के बाद त्रिकुटा ने अपने माता पिता की अनुमति लेकर ओ तप करने समुन्द्र तट पर चली गई । वहा साध्वी का वेश बनाकर एक छोटी सी कुटी में रहने लगी ।

उन्ही दिनों श्री राम की पत्नी सीता का हरण करके रावन ले गया था । सीता खोज करते हुए एक दिन श्री राम जी अपनी वानर सेना सहित वहा पधारे और उस दिव्य कन्या को तप करते हुए देखकर बोले - हे सुंदरी वह कौनसा कारन है अथवा वह कौनसा प्रोयोजन है जिस कारन तुम इतना कठोर तप कर रही हो । श्री राम के पूछने पर त्रिकुटा ने अपने नेत्र खोलकर देखा तो श्री राम जी अपने अनुज लक्ष्मण और वानर सेना सहित खड़े है । उन्हें देखकर त्रिकुटा के हर्ष के सीमा न रही । वह प्रसन्न होकर प्रभु को प्रणाम करने के उपरांत वह विनीत भावः से बोली - आपको पति रूप में प्राप्त करना ही मेरी तपस्या का कारन है । अत: मुझे अपनाकर मेरी तपस्या का फल प्रदान करने की कृपा करे । तब भगवान् श्री राम जी के कहा - हे सुमुखी इस अवतार में मैंने पत्नीव्रत होने का निसचय किया है । अत : इस जन्म में तुम्हारी अभिलाषा नही पूर्ण कर सकता किंतु मुझे प्राप्त करने के उद्देश्ये से तुमने कठिन तप किया है इसलिए तुम्हे ये वचन देता हु की की सीता सहित लंका से लौटते समय हम तुम्हारे पास भेष बदलकर आयेंगे और उस समय तुमने हमें पहचान लिए तो हम तुम्हे अपना लेंगे ।

श्री राम जी अपनी सेना सहित लंका की ओर चले गए । लंका में उनका रावन से भीषण सग्राम हुआ और अंत में रावन की मृत्यु हो गई । उसके बाद सीता की अग्नि परीक्षा लेकर पुष्क विमान पर सवार होकर आ रहे थे तब उन्होंने विमान रोक कर सीता और लक्षमण से बोले - तुम येही ठहरो हम थोडी देर में आते है उसके बाद श्री राम जी ने एक वृद्ध साधू का रूप धारण कर त्रिकुटा के सामने पहुचे, त्रिकुटा उन्हें पहचान ना सकी तब श्री राम जी अपने वास्तविक रूप में प्रकट होकर बोले- हे कन्या पूर्व कथा नुसार तुम परीक्षा में असफल रही अत : तुम कुछ काल तक तप करो कलयुग में जब मेरा 'कालिका अवतार' होगा तब तुम मेरी सहचरी बनोगी, उस समय उत्तर भारत में मानिक पर्वत पर तीन शिखर वाले मनोरमा गुफा में जहा तीन महा शक्तियो का निवास है वहां तुम भी अमर हो जाओगी। तप करो महाबली हनुमान तुम्हारे पहरी होंगे तथा सम्पूर्ण पृथ्वी पर तुम्हारी पूजा होंगी । तुम 'वैष्णो देवी' के नाम से तुम्हारी जगत महिमा जगत विख्यात होंगी ।

The abode of the Goddess Vaishno Devi is in the Moutains of Trikuta Hills, in the Jammu and Kashmir State of Northern India. Ma resides in a beautiful cave in the form of 3 'Pindis' namely, Maha-Kali, Maha-Laxmi and Maha-Sarawati.

Government and administration the management of the yatra and the shrine is done by the maa Vaishno devi shrine board, famous called the shrine board. The board was establishing in August 1986 under the provision of the Jammu and Kashmir maa Vaishno devi Shrine act 1986. The main objective of the better management and governance of the devotees shrine of maa Vaishno devi and its endowment including the appurtenant lands and buildings.

The management and control of the Shrine was with a privet trust called the Dharmarth trust and traditional local people group of called Baridars Prior to the takeover devotees and help the problem. Necessitated considering the take over were poor stateof things and the absence of facilities for the Pilgrims. The Baridars was offering was pocketed by the while, the other incomes including rentals and royalties were taken by the trust. There not many facilities for the Yatries. The all over Indian with attachment and trust in their hearts were often met with all kinds of hardships, Insensitivity and mismanagement the pilgrims who reached the holy town of Katra.

The Administration, management and governance under the provisions of the Maa Vaishno Devi Shrine and Shrine funds shall vest with a Board comprising Chairman and not more than ten members. The manager of the state of Jammu Kashmir by virtue of his office is the ex-officio Chairman of the Board. The manager nominate of the nine members in the Board at the policy making level. The History of Maa Vaishno Devi

The story is very old. To know the history of the temple we must go back to treata yug. In treata yug when Ravana, Kub-karan, Khardooshan, Tadka, Meghnath and others demons tormented the virtuous men, the gods decided to create a divine personality, in the form of a girl for their protection. This gave birth to a beautiful divine girl. The divine girl enquired of Devas, the cause and reason of her birth. The divine forces told her that she had been created to protect Dharma and rekindle spirit of religion. Maa Vaishno devi took birth in the South of India in the home of Ratnakar Sagar, her worldly parents had remained childless for a long time. Ratnakar had promised, the night befor the birth of the divine child that he would not come in the way of whatever his child desired. Girl was called trikuta as a child. Later the some girl was called Vaishnavi because of her taking birth from Lord Vishnu’s lenege.

The religion propagared by this goddess girl was called Vaishno Dharm. With in a short duration the goddess attracted the attention of gods, holy and saints peoples. The fame of divine power and wide and miracle spread far. People started visiting the abode of divine girl to get benediction. When Trikuta was nine years old, Trikuta sought permission from her father for doing penance on the seashore. Trikuta prayed to lord Vishnu in the form of shree Ram chander ji. During Shree Ram Search for Sita, he reached the seashore along with his army. His fell on eyes on this Divine girl in deep meditation. Shree Ram asked of Trikuta, her name and reason for penance. Trikuta replied Shree Ram that she had accepted him as her husband by heart. On hearing this Shree Ram told her that he had vowed to be faithfully to only wife. However, Shree Ram wished that penance of Trikuta should no go unfruitful and waste. There fore Shree Ram said to her, “I will definitely come to see you in a disguised from. If you can recognise me at that time then I will accept you.”

Shree Ram on his return from Lanka, he went to see the girl in the form of an old monk (Sadhu). Trikuta could not recognise God. He revealed his identity and assured Trikuta that in ‘kaliyug’ he will manifest him self as ‘Kalki’ God incarnate and will marry her. He asked Trikuta to meditate in Trikuta range of Manik Mountains, situated in north India. He said that Trikuta would become famous as “Maa Vaishno devi”.
